Gregory Hawk Palmer is first and foremost a family man alongside his wife Kait and two daughters Ostara and Isabel. Together they founded Peace Fire Farm with the intention to marry their strengths in Permaculture and Somatic healing arts so that the people and the land may have the opportunity to heal and grow together. Gregory started Fire Water Earth Works as a land-based service in 2015.

Professionally, Gregory is a 5th generation Californian, farmer, land steward(aka. land manager), permaculture designer, and restoration practitioner rooted in a lifelong relationship with California’s diverse working and wild landscapes. Raised in a farming, hunting, fishing, and fire-service family, he began in the citrus and avocado orchards of Ventura County with his fathers unbroken family lineage of farmers. He also grew up with his mother and step father at Fillmore Fish Hatchery where he was greatly influenced by their way of life as naturalists. Some of his favorite childhood memories are swimming with the fish, riding in tractors and truck beds on farm roads, and free climbing trees.

Fledging from home, he studied Fire Science at Oxnard College with a direction towards fire service professions. After a close encounter with his mortality via a motorcycle accident, his path redirected to four years of dedicated study in behavioral psychology and somatic therapies, work that continues to inform how he understands the body/mind connection and the mutuality between personal, cultural and environmental wellbeing. After these studies he returned to his farming roots helping to manage 20+ acres of pastures at Apricot Lane Farms (featured in The Biggest Little Farm) while also completing two Permaculture Design Certificate courses with Geoff Lawton. From there, he helped steward a 2,000-acre community project on the upper Klamath River with over 200 acres of irrigated pastures, deepening his practice and study in whole systems thinking and launching his professional services.

Since 2015, Gregory has served land projects in various capacities throughout California. Although his consulting and design services can be useful in most climates and projects, he has grown a strong affinity for the cold temperate climate and Mixed Conifer/Oak Woodlands between 1,000 and 5,000 foot elevation in the Sierra Nevada range.

All chapters of his life have been guided by ancestral knowledge, practices, and prayer which all point to the need for reclaiming humanity as a part of nature as opposed to separate from it.

Currently, Gregory offers consultation and land stewardship services for projects throughout California and beyond while prioritizing living and teaching from within the systems he teaches about near Arnold, CA.
